Every employer wants to hire you. They want you to be the right candidate. The sooner they can fill the position, the sooner they can get their business up and running. In order to get your CV noticed, just the right kind of professionally crafted cover letter will leave the right impression.
When can you talk about a professionally crafted cover letter? When it gets you noticed. If you approach it correctly, it’s your chance to stand out and make it clear that you are the right person for the job.
How to write a proper cover letter?
- It should sell your skills and experience in such a way that you are an exact fit for the position.
- It should be clear, brief and factual.
- Offer exactly what is required in the job description, using key points from your CV.
- Use your cover letter to break through.
- Mention a condensed summary of your work experience to show your motivation and enthusiasm.
- In the last paragraph, summarise your suitability for the role.
- If applicable, also mention that you have references available to provide upon request.
Form and other options to highlight
- If you have chosen to send your CV electronically, please use the Microsoft Word document format.
Try to keep it to one page. - Use a font type and size that is easy to read (we recommend Arial, size 9 pt).
- If no email address is given in the advertisement, send the CV printed on good quality paper together with a cover letter.
- Include the recipient’s name, job title, company name and full address in the upper left-hand section of the letter, and write your own name, address, phone number and email address in the upper right-hand section.
- Please indicate the date just above the salutation.
- Do your best to get the recipient’s name.
- Address him/her as “Dear Sir/Madam”, together with the last name and title if applicable.
- Insert the job title, or the number under which the job is listed, in bold or underlined type immediately below the salutation and before the first sentence.
- You might want to kindly ask the employer to get back to you with a polite: “looking forward to hear from you in due course“ sentence.
- Conclude the letter with a polite farewell, for example by saying “Sincerely”.
- Sign your name in your own handwriting and write your full name under the signatureCheck for any mistakes before sending.
